The new products Spectroquant® Colorimeter Picco Cl2/O3/ClO2/CyA/pH and Spectroquant® Colorimeter Picco COD/CSB offer users greater convenience and flexibility. Spectroquant® Colorimeter Picco Cl2/O3/ClO2/CyA/pH monitors five basic water quality parameters for applications in the food and chemical industries, research and contract labs, and field and production analyses. Additionally, the determination of chlorine is possible by using liquid reagents, which gives advantages in humid environments. Merck has also complemented the existing capabilities of the Spectroquant® Colorimeter Picco COD/CSB with four ranges that measure chemical oxygen demand (COD): from 10 mg/l up to 10 g/l. These new ranges will benefit industry specialists, particularly those working with waste water and at sewage treatment plants. The Spectroquant® Colorimeter Picco COD/CSB remains the perfect partner for ready-to-use Spectroquant® COD cell tests. The Spectroquant® COD/CSB tests are USEPA approved and fully complies with ISO 15705. The main advantages of the new Spectroquant® Colorimeters are:

The high-performance Spectrophotometer Pharo®: Combining the benefits of a system photometer with the versatility of a spectrophotometer, Merck’s Spectroquant® Pharo 100 and 300 spectrophotometers open up the possibilities for water analysis. It’s possible for users to program their own methods, measure concentrations or absorbances, record spectra and kinetic profiles, or perform multiwavelength measurements. From drinking, surface, process or waste water to beverages and disinfection control, Merck offers over 150 routine tests with different measuring ranges and citation forms from aluminum to zinc. Also available are convenient and ready-to-use cell tests and inexpensive reagent tests with detection limits down to the ppb range. The Spectroquant® system photometers benefits from instrument-supported analytical quality assurance (AQA) and the barcode reading system for all available Spectroquant® tests. The main advantages of the Spectrophotometer Pharo® are:

The new high-performance Granulated Culture Media: combine safety and optimal performance and offer clear advantages. The use of dehydrated culture media significantly reduces the spread of powder. The risk of inhaling hazardous or toxic substances and developing allergic reactions is eliminated, thereby leading to a safer and cleaner working environment. Merck places high value on health and safety aspects with regard to dehydrated culture media. The media are therefore manufactured in compliance all relevant Standards and Regulations. Produced in granulated form, they offer several health and safety advantages over other equivalent powder culture media, e.g. they produce less dust. Thanks to their excellent free-flowing properties, and solubility, they are far easier to use than powdered media. Merck specifies in its certificates the highest performance criteria available on the market. Merck’s quality control procedures for dehydrated culture media were recently adopted in ISO 11133 Part 2, thus indicating their excellence. The main advantages of Granulated Culture Media are:

The HY-LITE® Plus Pen is a new development specifically designed to meet the increasing need for rapid biomass monitoring in industrial samples and environments, where classical microbiology is too slow and normal bioluminescence methods cannot be applied due to too high assay inhibition. One of the application areas is monitoring of activated sludge in waste water treatment. The use of ATP biomass/ bioactivity monitoring shows changes in the processes better than traditional methods (such as suspended solids). Therefore, it facilitates the optimization of treatment processes (e.g. amount of inflow/outflow, return activated sludge, aeration, reaction to "toxic episodes", prescreening of raw waste for "sludge toxicity", etc.) The main advantages of the HY-LITE® Plus Pen test are:
